Just for the info, Shingetsutan Tsukihime is the anime based on the Doujin game by TYPE-MOON.
It's a very... superficial recap of the game. If you can buy the game it would be 10x better-- they only say very slight things about the Nasuverse in the anime. You'll end up like... "Okay, so what now...?"
Everything becomes much clearer once you play the actual Tsukihime game. At least 90% of everything.

Tsukihime is the original game by TYPE-MOON. MB was made later, and I'm pretty sure that MB's story is either a continuation of the Tsukihime story or has some other close relation to it.
Shingetsutan Tsukihime is the name of the anime that was based on the game, and it has a very, very different feel to it compared to the game, and leaves out a lot, due to the extreme length and depth of the Tsukihime game. I highly recommend playing Tsukihime, though - it's a great game.

I've played other Type-Moon visual novels (though there are only 2 others - Fate/Stay Night, Fate Hollow Ataraxia). Tsukihime was made when Type-Moon was a group of people with little money... and it shows. I strongly suggest you try out the other two Type-Moon visual novels, which is seen by most as better than Tsukihime, but I warn you that Tsukihime was famous in Japan for being the first visual novel to have a deep story, not in other aspects.

Yeah, both the art and the music in Tsukihime are rather (if not very) dated, but the writing and the story is excellent, imo.
